The first of Dynamite's Gargoyles books will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022. Key characters amongst the gargoyles include their leader Goliath, his former mate Demona, the elder gargoyle Hudson, the pterodactyl-esque Brooklyn, the tech whiz Lexington, the large bruiser Broadway and the dog-like beast Bronx.
Much of Gargoyles' plot revolved around these out-of-time creatures becoming accustomed to their new world, allying with a local police officer named Elisa Maza and fighting against Xanatos' nefarious plots. Originally defenders of a Scottish castle in the year 994, the gargoyles were frozen and resurrected in 1994, only to find themselves in the middle of Manhattan atop the skyscraper of billionaire David Xanatos. Dynamite has not specifically announced whether these entries in Gargoyles canon will be included in their reprint series, but the company has promised more news to come.
The SLG series featured Weisman's input and directly continued storylines from the second season of the television show. The series featured the same characters as the cartoon but is considered out of continuity by creator Weisman, who was hired to write for the comic but never had the chance due to its cancellation.Īside from their Marvel run, the Scottish stone behemoths of Gargoyles also appeared in comics published in Disney Adventures magazine in the '90s, as well as a 2006-2008 series produced by SLG Publishing. Featuring early artwork and writing from the likes of comic industry juggernauts like Amanda Conner, Joe Madureira, Jimmy Palmiotti, Martin Pasko, Grant Miehm, and Mort Todd, Marvel's Gargoyles series was meant to cover at least 12 issues, but only 11 were published. In addition to all-new stories, Dynamite will release facsimile reprints and trade paperbacks compiling previous Gargoyles comic series, beginning with the Marvel series that ran from 1994 to 1995.
